Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How His Sci-Fi Series Might Finish... Currently.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has Vince Gilligan See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
