The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
