James understood his incredible run of putting up 10+ points was in danger. In that crucial moment, however, it was not his focus.

The smart move meant distributing the basketball – and he executed. Consequently, his remarkable run came to an end.

LeBron's astounding streak of 1,297 consecutive regular-season outings scoring at least ten ended during a recent game, when basketball's greatest scorer was limited to eight total points during the Los Angeles Lakers' close win against Toronto. He delivered the clutch helper, finding Rui Hachimura to hit a three-pointer to win the game.

“None,” James stated in response on the record concluding. “The team got the victory.”

A Team-First Choice Secures the Win

James could have attempted to win the game – while also extending his record – in the closing seconds, yet he opted to make the extra pass to Hachimura in the left corner. Rui connected, and James raised his arms with his hands in the air.

You have to play the game correctly. You always make the right play,” James explained. “That’s just been how I operate. That is the way I was instructed to play. I've played that way my whole career.”

The record began over eighteen years ago. It was, by far the most extended such streak in NBA history: Michael Jordan previously held a streak of 866 straight games with 10+ points, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recorded 787, and Karl Malone had the fourth-longest run at 575.

“He’s such an unselfish player,” said Lakers center Jake LaRavia.

Scoring in double figures had long been an afterthought early in the fourth quarter began. Over the course of the record, he had reached double figures entering the fourth over twelve hundred times prior to Thursday.
