Citizens have assembled across the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-conducted attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the war in Gaza.

The assault saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The aggressive opponents have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will not create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership postponed official remembrance events until mid-October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but ceremonies still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas attack was organized in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was aired on Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' delegations met in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a second day of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the proposal.

A senior Palestinian official involved in the talks revealed that an evening round of indirect talks began at 7 PM local time.

The official said the earlier meeting concluded without tangible results, because of differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume combat after the opening period of the arrangement.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but noted that facilitators are working hard to narrow the differences between the two sides.

Essential Matters in Negotiations

  • A permanent truce
  • The exchange of the hostages still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies deliveries
  • After-conflict administration of the region

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square that day, young Hagar - whose sibling survived the assault on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - explained: "No place feels like home anymore and until each abducted person return not a single person will feel safe."

"Once we see all home returned, we can feel relief again. Then we can start to heal," she continued.

Near the leader's residence in Jerusalem, people gathered to express their solidarity for the relatives of the hostages. Israel says nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be surviving.

Demonstrator one woman stated: "It's necessary do every compromise needed for the captives to return. But we really want assurances that we will be secure."

Surveys now consistently show that approximately seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to end in as payment for the release of the captives.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the sound of aerial bombardments and explosions could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses said the intense Israeli attacks continued.

In the main city, bombardments were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the western district, area and Nasr areas and in the eastern district of the community, as well the camp to the north-west.

"When the evening arrives, the dread arrives with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose young son was died by an Israeli bombing previously, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are lying together, holding each other, particularly my smallest child who places his head on me all night."

"Every second we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be finalized and that the conflict will return to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area said it had received the remains of several people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli attack in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of Khan Younis indicated two more fatalities had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli forces while attempting to get assistance to the south, health workers stated.
