England to Start the European Championship 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will initiate their 2028 European Championship adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they attain the anticipated entry for a tournament taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an England men’s match since May 2016, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to welcome the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.

England are planned to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, if they top their group, their round of 16 match would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Opening and Demonstration

The event was unveiled at an event in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were barracked as they approached the location by approximately 50 activists, who demanded the Israeli team to be removed from global football because of the situation in Gaza.

Banners were held up with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The first match of Euro 2028 will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a game that will involve Wales if they make it.

The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will attract families and help reach a broader range of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would do the same at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the finals through that route.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the last eight played at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a competition for the followers and a celebration of everything we value about the sport – its passion and capacity to unite individuals.”

More than three million admissions, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are projected to be made available to attendees.
