Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
